Google Business Profile: offer vs event vs update posts
Google Business Profile has three main post types. This table summarizes what Google's help page says about each one.
| Type | Use it for | What it needs | Button |
|---|---|---|---|
| Update | News and general information about your business | A description (and a photo or video if you like) | An action button with a link is optional |
| Offer | Promotions, sales and deals | A title, dates and time. You can add a description, coupon code, link and terms | Automatically includes a "View offer" button |
| Event | Something happening at your business on a date | A title and start and end dates and times. If you give no time, the event shows as lasting 24 hours on those dates | An action button is optional |
How to choose
- Is it a deal with a start and an end? Offer.
- Is it something people attend at a time? Event.
- Is it anything else? Update.
Google also notes that posts older than 6 months are archived unless a date range is set, and that hotels can't create offer posts.
